Extractions, the removal of teeth fall under one of two categories - either general dentistry (involving non-surgical extractions) or Oral Surgery Procedures (where the patient requires anesthesia). An oral surgery procedure is more involved than a general dentistry extraction due to many factors, including: if the tooth is impacted into the bone, if the tooth is underneath another or in an abnormal place in the mouth (roof of mouth, side of jaw, etc...). Your dentist will determine if your procedure can be completed by an oral surgeon or by the general dentist. They will determine this through exams and review of x-rays, along with the items on your Medical Health History.
